In April 2001 the Coalition published a 49-page State of the Watershed Report, summarizing all available research data relative to the Pomperaug Watershed. Copies of the Report have been distributed to the Selectmen and land use commissioners of the watershed towns. They have been made available to town libraries, and to state and local organizations and individuals who have a part to play in the protection of the water system in our region.
Past studies of the River looked at individual elements of the watershed and aquifer and created only a partial portrait, often with data that was not current. Using the latest Geographic Information System, census, water use, and water quality data, the State of the Watershed Report gives an overview of current conditions and creates, for the first time, a detailed and comprehensive picture of the watershed. Funding for the Pomperaug River Watershed Report was provided by: The Central Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments, Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition, and the Woodbury Junior Women’s Club.
