If you are a college student pursuing an environmental career, highly motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team, you may consider applying for an internship at PRWC. Internship opportunities vary from year to year and can include both paid and volunteer assignments. Interns engage in activities that support PRWC’s work to protect water resources in the communities that are directly affected by the quantity and quality of water in the Pomperaug River and Aquifer as it relates to local drinking water supplies.
PRWC focuses in three main areas - scientific research, education, and practical support through advocacy and advice - to make sure that the people who depend on this water supply understand the resource and take appropriate actions to preserve and protect it.
The ideal candidate will enjoy performing a mix of outdoor field work and office assignments, be comfortable interacting with residents of all ages, possess strong written skills, have strong organizational skills, and a desire to learn on the job. Familiarity with Excel, GPS and GIS technologies will be considered a plus. Familiarity with Photoshop and InDesign are also a plus. Daily access to a personal vehicle is required.
Paid positions are dependent on the availability of funding. Both paid and volunteer candidates are selected based on their qualifications to complete seasonal projects. Interns will receive mileage reimbursement for non-commute personal vehicle travel related to PRWC activities.
Interested candidates should email or mail the following application material to the attention of PRWC’s Outreach Coordinator:
A Cover Letter outlining your interest for applying (please indicate your desire for a paid or volunteer position);
A Resume describing your qualifications including education, past work, volunteer experiences, special talents, and any other relevant skills or experience.
Contact information for Two References (e.g. professors, academic advisors, coaches, past employers, personal contacts other than family, etc.)
Please present us with your interest as soon as possible but no later than March 31, 2015 for consideration for a summer intern position. Residents of the PRWC communities may be given preference; PRWC is an equal opportunity employer. Questions and applications should be directed to: Carol Haskins, PRWC Outreach Director, 39 Sherman Hill Road, Suite C-103, Woodbury CT 06798 or at outreach@pomperaug.org.
