PRWC Out and About

On September 14, PRWC presented on River Smart practices to Waterbury Garden Club members. on 9/14. Approx. 30 people were in attendance. PRWC Outreach Director Carol Haskins presented River Smart & Community Partnerships at the Connecticut Community Foundation's Western CT Leadership Program Environment Day on September 28. The next day, Executive Director Len DeJong presented at the Connecticut Watershed Conservation Network Conference sponsored by Rivers Alliance at the Leir Retreat Center, in Ridgefield, CT. PRWC’s presentation was a snapshot of the water resource issues associated with the Towantic Energy Facility and included PRWC’s role in the Siting Council review process. PRWC presented information on the State Water Allocation and Use Model Ordinance to the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments (NVCOG) Regional Planners Commission on October 6. PRWC identified that Public Act 14-163 requires the Water Planning Council to promote the adoption of the Model Ordinance. PRWC also solicited input on potential pathways to move an ordinance forward locally within the Pomperaug Watershed. It is thought that a town CEO meeting is an appropriate next step to discuss the Southbury’s Task Force interest in pursuing the Water Allocation and Use Ordinance on a regional basis. PRWC has offered to host that meeting.

In addition to these presentations, PRWC shared it's environmental message and outreach materials at the Woodbury Fall Fest / Meander on Main Street and atWoodbury Trunk or Treat at Hollow Park.
