Woodbury Earth Day is preparing for its 22nd Annual Earth Day Celebration, which will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 11 AM to 4 PM at Hollow Park in beautiful Woodbury. This year, the celebration is being presented under the leadership of the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC), a Woodbury-based environmental non-profit organization, with continued support from dedicated community volunteers, the Town of Woodbury, and New Morning Market.
PRWC is stepping into the Woodbury Earth Day leadership after serving on the event steering committee for three years and will continue the legacy of the community-wide celebration.Initiated by New Morning Market more than 20 years ago, the event has grown into the largest Earth Day celebration in Connecticut and draws an estimated 5,000 visitors who enjoy the 130+ vendors that provide demonstrations, music, food, entertainment, an artisans market, and environmental education. At this time, Woodbury Earth Day is seeking the participation of vendors and exhibitors who share in the vision of preserving a sound environment and supporting a sustainable lifestyle.
Carol Haskins, PRWC Outreach Director and Woodbury Earth Day Chair, says: “We are proud to be an event that focuses on protecting and improving the nature of our communities, our land and water, and ourselves. We hope that you will join us in providing our visitors with real solutions for people to live better, healthier lives with less impact on the environment.”
Woodbury Earth Day welcomes non-profit organizations, small and large businesses, food concessions, and municipal and state agencies. In the spirit of Earth Day, suitable vendors and exhibitors are those whose products, missions, and services support sustainable living such as environmental organizations; animal welfare groups; artisans; farmers and growers; alternative energy companies; and those focused on alternative modes of transportation, outdoor recreation, holistic wellness, local foods and more.
Vendors and exhibitors interested in participating should visit www.woodburyearthday.org for guidelines and to download an application. The application deadline is Friday February 19, 2016. Filling out the application does not necessarily guarantee booth space as applications will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis, so be sure to submit applications early.
Woodbury Earth Day is also seeking volunteers to join the event steering committee. Key steering committee roles include: vendor registrar, volunteer coordinator, food vendor coordinator, parking coordinator, sponsorship coordinator, children’s activities coordinator, music coordinator, and activities coordinator. Interested volunteers should contact Carol Haskins at 203-263-0076 for further details.
New Morning Market will also continue their tradition of celebrating Earth Day at the store with a customer appreciation event.
