Meet PRWC's 2017 Dr. Marc J. Taylor Intern

Rain barrels, like the one seen here, are an effective way to reduce your water footprint.

The Board of Directors of the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (“PRWC) proudly announces the selection of Josephine Purdy of Bridgewater CT as the 2017 Dr. Marc J. Taylor intern. Josephine recently completed her third year at McGill University in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, where she studies Environmental Biology with a specialization in Wildlife Biology.

“I was drawn to this position because I am very interested in conservation and communicating the importance of protecting our environment to others” said Purdy. During her 10-week internship, Purdy will reinstall, monitor and determine new sites for PRWC stream temperature data loggers, conduct research and prepare base maps as part of the Watershed Based Plan project, further our restoration initiatives, participate in Land Use Committee meetings and extend our outreach programs at community events.

This prestigious environmental student internship was established in 2013 in memory of PRWC’s co-founder, Dr. Taylor (1937-2012). Dr. Taylor was a medical doctor who, in his retirement, turned his keen intellect and calm demeanor toward fostering coalition-based solutions to benefit the local environment with a particular focus on protecting the Pomperaug River and Aquifer. In addition to stewarding environmental resources at the local, state, and national level, Dr. Taylor was also particularly eager to foster the same passion in those preparing to be the stewards of the future.

PRWC also offers Youth Conservation Corp and volunteer internship opportunities. To learn more about them, to make a dedicated contribution in the memory of Dr. Taylor for future internship support please contact the office by phone at 203-263-0076.
