IN CASE YOU MISSED IT - Slides from the State of the Watershed Presentation on January 25 in Woodbury and January 31 in Southbury are now available for public viewing (see below).
In the “State of the Watershed” presentations, PRWC's Community Engagement Coordinator Olivia DiPalermo provided a summary of the health of local streams and aquifers through the recent findings of the organization’s ambient water quality monitoring program which includes bacteria and nitrate sampling, stream temperature monitoring, aquatic life assessments, and streamwalk assessment surveys. The presentation also touched on stormwater runoff and road-stream crossing infrastructure in the community and the impacts of recent flooding and drought events. Attendees further heard about strategies they can implement to maintain and improve water quality and ample time was allotted for questions and discussion. These presentations were offered in response to growing public interest in the condition of the Pomperaug River Watershed following repeated droughts in 2022 and flooding in 2023.
