Volunteer Opportunity: Trash Clean Up

Join the PRWC Marc J. Taylor Interns and Staff for a trash clean up at the Pomperaug River along Flood Bridge Road, Southbury on Thursday, July 21 from 10 am to 12 pm. Before this stretch of river, the Pomperaug travels through downtown Woodbury, meanders past Heritage Village, and travels alongside Main St S in Southbury. Help stop the flow of trash into beautiful places like the Bent of the River Sanctuary and Lake Zoar by volunteering with PRWC! Perfect for volunteer hours and getting kids out into nature.

Please bring a water bottle and wear shoes that will protect your feet and get wet. We suggest bringing work gloves if you have them. A limited supply of work gloves will be available to borrow and trash bags will be provided. Please bring your own trash picker if you so desire.

Adults and children over age 10 (with an adult) are welcome to participate in the clean-up. To sign up to volunteer visit https://www.pomperaug.org/event-details/volunteer-trash-clean-up . Dress to wade in the water -- old sneakers than can get wet or waders are recommended, please no open-toed sandals. We advise wearing pants to avoid contact with poison ivy. Remember bug spray, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle.

The clean up will go on in light rain, but in the case of high streamflow conditions, downpours, or thunder, the clean up will be postponed. Volunteers who pre-register for the clean up will be notified of any cancellations in the case of unsafe conditions.

Please meet us at the Southbury Town Hall lower parking lot. We will walk over to the river as a group to start our clean up. We look forward to seeing you there!
